Hot on the heels of the two new ANDRA Sport Compact National Records set recently, the record hunters were out in force at the recent Drag Combat event at Western Sydney International Dragway. No less than three new records were set, taking the total new ANDRA Sport Compact National Records set in the last 6 months to a stagering 5 new entires.
Break new ground in the history books was standout performer Robert Anderson in his Mitsubishi Lancer. Robert recently reset the ET record for Front Runner, and at the Drag Combat event bolted on a set of street tyres to obliterate the Sport FWD MPH record. Running hard at 118.72mph, Robert lowered the existing MPH record by 8.41mph.
What’s incredible is that Robert now has the honor of holding two ANDRA Sport Compact National Records in two different classes in the same car, a feat never achieved before. It is a monumental effort on Roberts behalf, and his records are testimony to the hard work and dedication he and his family have put into their racing efforts.
Sport FWD ET record also came in for a hammering, this time by Chris Tolkien in his black GSR Cordia Turbo. Chris is a new comer to the record books, and nailed his name on the title with a rapid 12.326 seconds, nearly a second quicker than the old record of 13.149.
In All Motor, Michael Baghdadi unloaded his big bore naturally aspirated Gemini on the WSID track to record a stunning 12.19 second new class record, dropping a mere .06 of a second! His unorthadox approach with huge alloy trumpets out the bonnet, and big wheelstands brought a huge cheer from the crowd every time the little green beast appeared on the startline.
The chase for the ANDRA Sport Compact Records is well and truly heating up, with many racers dedicating themselves to the task of being one of the few that have their names in the history books. The next official ANDRA Sport Compact Record Setting event will be the Fast Fours Jamboree at Willowbank Raceway on the 17th and 18th of September 2005.
